Fun Fact

  • A honey bee can visit about 50 to 100 flowers in one trip while collecting nectar and pollen.
  • Bees have five eyes. Two big eyes help them see shapes and colors, and three smaller eyes on top of their head help them sense light.
  • Honey bees communicate by doing a special “waggle dance” to show other bees where to find flowers.
  • A single honey bee only makes about 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its entire life.
  • Bees can recognize human faces, just like we recognize each other.
  • Honey never spoils. Jars of honey found in ancient tombs are still safe to eat.
  • A bee’s wings beat about 200 times per second, which is what makes their buzzing sound.
  • There are over 20,000 different species of bees around the world.
