Fun Facts

The Caribbean includes many beautiful islands and coastal countries known for warm weather, beaches, music, food, and colorful culture. Some well-known Caribbean countries include Jamaica, Barbados, Cuba, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Caribbean-inspired crafts are a fun way to talk about geography, island life, ocean habitats, and the many cultures found throughout the region.

Supplies

  • Approx. 20 grams of small glass beads
  • 4mm gold or silver beads
  • Beading elastic
  • White glue
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut a 30 inch length of beading elastic. Add a little white glue to the ends and let it dry so the elastic is easier to thread through the beads.
  2. String about 12 small glass beads onto the elastic and move them to the center. This will make the loop that goes around the second toe, so check the size before moving on.
  3. Push both ends of the elastic through one 4mm bead to close the toe loop.
  4. String about 1 inch of small beads onto each side of the elastic. Try to keep both sides even.
  5. Push both ends of the elastic through another 4mm bead.
  6. String another 1 inch of small beads onto each side.
  7. Push both ends of the elastic through a final 4mm bead.
  8. Add small glass beads to both ends until the jewelry is long enough to fit comfortably around the ankle.
  9. Tie the ends together with a secure double knot. Trim the extra elastic.
  10. Add a tiny dab of white glue to the knot if you want extra hold. Let it dry before wearing.
How to make Caribbean foot jewelry

Craft Tips

Use beachy colors like turquoise, blue, white, coral, gold, and silver for a Caribbean-inspired look.

Make sure the foot jewelry fits loosely enough to be comfortable, but not so loose that it slips off.

This craft is best for older kids and teens because small beads can be tricky for younger children.

Do not wear this while running or playing active games. It is best for relaxing, dress-up, beach photos, or poolside fun.

Teacher Friendly Educational Extension

Turn this easy bead craft into a geography activity by having kids locate the Caribbean Sea on a map. Talk about islands, coastlines, warm climates, and ocean travel.

Students can choose a Caribbean country to learn about and share one fun fact about its music, food, animals, beaches, or traditions. Then they can design their Caribbean Foot Jewelry using colors inspired by that country’s flag, flowers, ocean life, or landscape.

This also works well as a summer camp activity, beach-themed classroom project, or creative geography lesson.
