T-Rex Moveable Puppet

Bring prehistoric fun to craft time with this T-Rex moveable puppet. Kids can cut out the printable dinosaur pieces, connect the joints with brad fasteners, and make the T-Rex move its arms, legs, tail, and jaw.

This easy dinosaur craft for kids is a fun addition to a classroom dinosaur unit, homeschool lesson, or rainy-day activity. The original project was reprinted from Cathy’s book, which includes both black-and-white and color versions with matching letters on the back to make assembly easier.

Supplies

  • White cardstock or heavyweight paper
  • Brad fasteners
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Crayons, colored pencils, or markers if using the black-and-white printable

Instructions

  1. Open the printables below and print both T-Rex puppet sheets on white cardstock or heavyweight paper.
  2. Color the dinosaur pieces before cutting them out if you are using the black-and-white version.
  3. Carefully cut out each piece of the T-Rex.
  4. Use a hole punch to make holes at the marked circles on each joint.
  5. Arrange the pieces using the completed puppet picture as a guide.
  6. Insert a brad fastener through each matching joint.
  7. Open the prongs on the back of each fastener to hold the pieces together. Do not press them too tightly, or the puppet pieces may not move easily.
  8. Move the T-Rex’s arms, legs, tail, and jaw, then have fun creating your own dinosaur adventures.

Adult supervision may be helpful when younger children are using scissors, a hole punch, or brad fasteners.

Teacher Friendly Educational Extension

Use this moveable T-Rex puppet as part of a dinosaur science lesson. Talk about what scientists have learned from Tyrannosaurus rex fossils, including its large skull, powerful legs, sharp teeth, and very small arms.

Children can also write a short story about their T-Rex, create a prehistoric habitat from construction paper, or use the finished puppet to act out a dinosaur story for the class.
