Nail Polish Marbleized Frame Craft
Turn an ordinary picture frame into a colorful keepsake with this Nail Polish Marbleized Frame Craft. This is a fun gift idea for kids to make for parents, grandparents, teachers, or friends. Every frame comes out a little different, which makes each one extra special. Add a favorite photo and you have a handmade gift that can hold a treasured memory for years to come.

This craft is best done with adult supervision because nail polish has strong fumes and can be messy.
Supplies
- Plain frame
- Nail polish in several colors
- Toothpick or wooden skewer
- Warm water
- Medium disposable container
- Newspaper or table covering
- Gloves
- Favorite photo to add after the frame dries
Instructions
- Cover your work area with newspaper or another protective covering.
- Put on gloves before working with the nail polish.
- Fill a disposable container about halfway with warm water.
- Drip a few shades of nail polish onto the surface of the water. Work quickly so the polish does not dry too soon.
- Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the colors into a marbled pattern.
- Carefully dip the frame into the water so the design sticks to the surface.
- Lift the frame out and set it aside to dry completely.
- Once dry, place your photo inside the frame and display it or give it as a gift.
Tips
- Adult help is recommended for this craft.
- Use better quality nail polish for the best marbled look. Very inexpensive polish may not spread well on the water.
- Try using just two or three colors at a time so the design stays bright and pretty.
- Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area.

Fun Facts
- Nail polish has been around for thousands of years. Early versions were used in ancient China as far back as 3000 BC.
- Today, nail polish comes in many finishes including glossy, glittery, metallic, and even glow-in-the-dark.
- Marbling is a type of art that creates swirling patterns, and no two marbleized designs are exactly alike.
Teacher Friendly Educational Extension
This craft is a fun way to talk about color mixing and patterns. Ask kids to predict what will happen when different polish colors swirl together. Students can also create the frame as a gift for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents Day, or teacher appreciation projects.
For a writing activity, have children write a sentence or short paragraph about the photo they plan to place inside the frame and why that memory is important to them.
