Make this Silhouette Dad’s Day Card and Poem to show Dad that you take your cues from him on how to become a good and caring adult. This card works for both girls and boys  and can be made in any color combination that makes a good contrast.  We’ve written this poem for you but you can add an extra message of love inside when you sign your name.

Trivia:

Cutting portraits, generally in profile, from black card became popular in the mid-18th century. They were a cheap alternative to the portrait miniature. Skilled specialist artists could cut a high-quality bust portrait in a matter of minutes. Supplies

• 8 1/2 x 11 Yellow Card Stock
• 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 Burgundy Construction Paper
• Scissors
• Glue Stick
• Profile Picture enlarged to 8 1/2″ height

Instructions

1. Check your photos to see if you have a good profile picture or take a new picture with your digital camera. It doesn’t need to be perfect all you need is a good profile. Enlarge the profile portion of the photo on the computer or xerox machine to a height of 8 1/2″.
2. Print the poem on your card stock. Note that there is a faint dotted line to indicate where the card stock will be folded to make your card.
3. See the photos to see how to line your photo up so it covers the poem. Tack it down lightly with a piece of tape so you can cut out your silhouette.
4. Carefully cut the silhouette outline on the card stock.
5. Remove the photo and fold on the dotted line.
6. Take your 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 piece of construction paper and insert inside the card as shown and glue down on the back flap. You can create this size by cutting the piece of construction paper in half.
7. Trim the yellow card stock to the size of the construction paper as you see in the finished card.
8. Sign your card and it will become one of Dad’s favorite keepsakes for years to come.
