|Creative Back To School Projects|
by Betty Bose
It will soon be time to head back to school. Get the kids into a good headset by recalling some of the fun events that were part of their past school years. Everybody has some high points from the Science Fair or Holiday Chorus to a school outing at a local point of interest. It helps if you have an album or a portfolio that is earmarked just for school activities.
Thinking ahead to the coming year you might consider picking up one of those large pocket portfolios and decorating it in a theme that is age appropriate for your child. We have a craft where there is one decorated in handprints. This Handprint Portfolio is perfect for the preschooler or kindergarten age children but could easily work for the older children with duct tape and their initial like we did with the Duct Tape Journal. Don’t be afraid to use your, and their, imagination to make it personal. Then all of their special projects and activities have an easy, immediate “home” where they can stay permanently or until you want to use them in some special way. They always love to look back to when they were “little”. Don’t we all!
This year we are adding a new category to our craft projects. Our Buddy Paper Dolls made their debut in Buddy Swimsuits and now have Buddy School Clothes. It will give the younger kids an opportunity to practice their cutting skills and to use the dolls to act out any concerns they may have about entering a new environment. We will be adding to their wardrobe throughout the year so keep checking back.
Today’s kids have a lot more activities than most of us did when we were young (especially me) and you can get them in a habit of being responsible for their schedules with our monthly Coloring Calendars. On the first day of each month we put up a new calendar with some holidays already printed in and suggestions for more. In addition to it being a fun coloring project, get the kids to print in and read special up coming events like birthday parties, school projects due and your own family special occasions. If you like to plan ahead you might be able to put the word "calendar" in the search field and find some of the upcoming calendars prior to the date they are aired (we’re not always ahead but we try). Hang this on their special bulletin board or a place where they can make it a habit to look each day.
Our School Days theme pages are filled with craft ideas for kids of all ages. There are Back Pack Buddies and Key Chain crafts, Duct Tape and Denim Notebooks, Hair Accessories and Back Packs from Recycled Materials and so much more. Check it out and get the kids excited and looking forward to going back to school with their latest projects.
