Keeping The Kids Happy Until Thanksgiving Dinner is Ready

Image of Keeping The Kids Happy Until Thanksgiving Dinner is ReadyAre you are headed out to a family holiday dinner for Thanksgiving where there are a few kids that need to be entertained until dinner is on the table?  If you are the crafty one in the family, why not organize a group craft project to keep the kids occupied.

Here are a few suggestions to make the event a success:

1. Check with the hostess to see if there is a space that can be designated for the project.

2. Enlist the help of the older children to work with the younger kids and in some cases you may find a teen that will take charge of the whole project.

3. Be aware of the materials that you select for this project. Paints and bulk glue projects really don’t mix well with pretty party clothes.

Let’s start out with a suggestion for a project for Thanksgiving.  As our families grow it is fun to have place cards so everyone knows where to sit. Try printing out these pilgrim place cards without the names on them. Have the kids write their names and the names of their family members and cut them out.  Then let the hostess place them in the proper places.

Another great idea for the younger kids is the old standby of coloring pages and crayons or colored pencils. Colored markers are great, but sometimes they come in contact with that special party outfit with disastrous results. We’ve provided a link to some coloring pages for Thanksgiving  as well as Printable Word Puzzles.

An idea supplied at many of our family gatherings by the favorite crafty aunt of the family, Terri of MakingFriends.com, was to come with a roll of butcher paper, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and construction paper. Each kid was given a section of the paper to work on a banner for the occasion. There were usually lots of extra supplies like feathers, jewels and odds and ends of trim and fun accessories.

Our friend Amanda from Crafts by Amanda recently aired a Google Broadcast on the same theme and lots of great ideas. Click here to listen to what she and two of her crafty friends have to suggest to make your Thanksgiving get together  perfect.

Hope this helps you keep all the family members happy while the football games are being watched and dinner is being prepared.
