Salt Dough Lips
Salt dough is such a fun medium. So many cute things can be made from salt dough and a little craft paint. Try these cute little lips on for size! Make them from a heart cookie cutter and a little manipulation, glue a pin on the back and you’re done!
Supplies
1 cup salt
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup water
red acrylic paint
pink glitter glue
paintbrush
heart shaped cookie cutter
toothpick
pin back
white craft glue or hot glue
IMPORTANT NOTE: This recipe for salt dough makes a lot of projects. If you only plan on making a few, cut this recipe into fourths or in half.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 250 F. Mix together, salt, flour, and water until a dough is formed. Knead the dough on a floured surface until the mixture is elastic and smooth. If dough is too sticky, sprinkle with flour, continue to do so until stickiness is gone. BE CAREFUL. Do not add too much flour, this will dry out the dough and will cause it to crack before you get a chance to bake it.
THIS DOUGH IS NOT EDIBLE, though it won't hurt you or your kids, it just won't taste very good!
Roll dough flat with a rolling pin, about 1/4" - 1/2" thick.
Use cookie cutter to cut out hearts.
Use toothpick to draw lip line and to trim off bottom of heart forming the bottom lip. Make as many as you like and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for approximately 2 - 2.5 hours. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. For best results, allow to cool and dry overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
Paint lips with one or two coats of red paint, enough to cover. Allow to dry in between coats. When dry, add a coat of pink glitter glue.
Let dry completely. Glue a pin back to the back of the lips.

They were really fun to make however extremely messy! I recommend laying down some protective newpaper to protect the surface and always be washing your hands and the mess does spread! Really fun!
